Hours: 2
Goal: To train the students in the theory and practice of the effective use of pepper spray.
Objectives:
- The student will be able to discuss of the use of chemical weapons in history.
- The student will be able to list some chemical weapons used in law enforcement, as well as their effects, advantages, and disadvantages.
- The student will be able to discuss in some detail the properties of pepper spray.
- The student will be able to list the steps in deploying pepper spray.
- The student will be able to list the potential problems in the deployment of pepper spray, and how to avoid or minimize them.
- The student will be able to list the steps in decontamination following pepper use.
- The student will be able to list factors contributing to, signs indicating predisposition toward, and appropriate responses to minimize the probability of injury.
- The student will be able to discuss the legal challenges and liabilities in pepper use, and the impact of media coverage on community relations following pepper deployments by various agencies.
- The student will be able to pass a written exam.
