6-hour DPS Private Security Board-required training for the non-commissioned security officer license. The entry point for security careers in Texas.

Understanding Texas Security Licensing
All security officers working for compensation in Texas must hold a valid security officer license. The Private Security Bureau regulates security personnel, companies, and related occupations under the Texas Occupations Code.
Emerald Shield Academy's School of Security provides the mandatory pre-licensing education for each license level, taught online by certified instructors with real security industry experience.
License Quick Reference
- Level II: Non-commissioned guard — 6 hours required
- Level III: Commissioned (armed) — 30 hours required
- Level IV: Personal protection officer — advanced training
- PI License: DPS Private Security Board-required training + 3 years experience
- Process Server: DPS Private Security Board-required hours + state exam
